Chip Crosswire was a young male monkey, a student at Tallahassee Tech in Florida and former resident of Elwood City. He was the son of the wealthy Ed and Millicent Crosswire, and Muffy's older brother.

Infamous for his many girlfriends, one of Chip's most primary relationships was with Catherine Frensky. He and Catherine shared an on-and-off courtship tormented by both drama and passion. Between other relationships, Chip would often relapse back to Catherine for a short time.

Despite his status as a prolific romantic, Chip was only married one time. He married Laverne Frensky (the mother of two of Chip's ex-girlfriends), and had a son with her. Their relationship faced many troubles, and they were nearing divorce. Soon before Chip's death, he and Laverne had separated.

Chip committed suicide by jumping off a bluff into the ocean after being rejected by ex-girlfriend Catherine.

  2. Chip was college-age in 2014-2015, likely meaning he was between the ages of 18 and 22. It is also possible that Chip was not an undergraduate student, which would make him older.
  3. In Issue 184, it is seen on Bitzi's gravestone that the current date is September 6, 2024. Chip's suicide in Issue 180 must take place a few days earlier.

  6. In panel 9 of Issue 034, Catherine tells Chip "Yes, I would love to get back together," implying that they had already been together at one time. In the Arthur series, Chip and Catherine never actually dated, but Elwood seems to assume that they did.
